We officially began summer school after taking the month of June off. I needed a break, she needed a break and I had to pack. So now that we are moved, I can focus on school work again. We have already finished the "official" second grade work, so we are doing some extra work until the official stuff is ordered, around the first week of August. I have also "officially" started Sam on his preschool work! So here is a run down of what we are and will be doing over the next few weeks! By-the-way, I am feeling official as my word for the day, so you may see it a few more times.
Makiah is doing a LOT of reading, of which some is forced upon her and the rest she is doing on her own. I really shouldn't say forced, but I am having her read a new book that I just purchased for her and she is going to do her first book report. I plan on helping her quite a bit, but that's okay, just want her to get the concept of a book report. She will also be doing a report on penguins--her favorite animal. Tomorrow, Makiah will begin a study on Three Old Testament Kings. I have the Teachers Manual and a student manual from a Sunday School class a couple of years ago. It's perfect for her age and she is really into studying the Bible--again something I won't stop. . . ever. Math, now that's another story. Math frustrates her most of the time. She knows it, but she just doesn't really like it. So I bought a 2nd grade Math workbook from a local mega bookstore that looks fun, colorful, has lots of clowns and she is really excited about going through it. I want to keep her Math skills going since she starts multiplication in 3rd grade. She also has a couple of Animal Science and Literature and Creative Writing paces that we are going to work through. I also have a Hooked On Phonics--Learn Spanish that I am going to start with her. I am having Makiah keep a journal. I remember when I did this school and she really likes getting to write down what she did and such. Shhhh. . . don't tell her, but it's great writing practice. ~~Smile~~
Samuel has done really well during our first week back to school. He is now officially in preschool and he is doing great. Most importantly though, he loves it and it keeps him busy and this is a good thing. He sat right there with us during the whole school time. He does worksheets that I purchased on colors, shapes, numbers and letters. He can count to twenty already, so we started on number recognition. He recognizes and identifies numbers 0-9, can write his name, knows all his shapes and colors. We start patterns, dot-to-dot that is 0-9 and mazes next week. If he continues to do this well, then we might be able to start phonics in January!
We do science experiments, they really love those!! This week we have been talking about things that float and sink. We did two experiments and a craft. Most of the time Sam is involved in the experiments, no reason to exclude him, but as her work gets harder she will have some on her own.
I am still in planning mode for the fall session of school, but I have some great ideas on paper. I'll share those more in my "BIG Homeschool Post" sometime in the next couple of weeks.
~This post was originally started on 7/9/09, but because I haven't had to finish it, you are just now getting it!!

Sunday Funnies
Blessed Sunday to you all!! I am looking forward to tonight. Hubs and I are visiting my parents church because my great uncle is preaching there! It will be lovely to see them!! I am also excited for what God has in store for us tonight. You know going to church with an open mind and a heart that is willing to receive from God, will always go home having been fed!
I am so thankful for my freedoms. My natural freedom from living in a free country, but I am also thankful for the freedom I have found in Christ! There is nothing like having God in my life, nothing can deliver you like He can--true freedom!!
Mandisa--Freedom Song
I have to also leave a funny for you because, well, laughter doeth good like a medicine. Who doesn't want to be healthy?? This video is Anita Renfroe and this has totally been me all week!!
I hope your Sunday is blessed. Full of God's presence and joyous laughter!!

This Is Why I Request NO RUNNING IN THE HOUSE
One day while mama was hard at work packing boxes, the natives, uh, I mean the children were busy hindering the process.
Here is that story. . .
I was upstairs going through the toy store, more lovingly known as the play room. I was up to my ears in toys and books. Earlier that day I had been packing in the kitchen. I dumped some flour in the kitchen trash out of the canister, because I wasn't about to pack a flour filled canister. It was only about half full and I had another whole bag of flour, so I dumped it. I finished up in the kitchen, took the hooligans and went upstairs.
We had been upstairs quite awhile already and I needed some more trash bags (for toys going in the yard sale) and so I sent Makiah after them. Sam followed her, because you know, there might be an opportunity to harass her along the way. They went downstairs and I heard Makiah say, "look what I found Sam." Famous last words in most cases. See whatever she has, he thinks he needs. I heard her yell "NO" and he yelled back and then I heard running. Then silence and then "oh, look what you did". Little feet began a quick accent up to me. Sam appeared in the door and said, "there's cauliflower on the floor and Kiah did it!". I had no idea what he was talking about. Then Makiah came to the door, a guilty I-hope-you-really-love-me-grin on her face. "Uh, mama, um, there's a problem"--short pause--then in a very fast and determined tone she began again, "and it's all Sam's fault, he was chasing me and we knocked over the trash can when we (RAN AT FULL TILT) through the kitchen and I'm sorry".
Realization as to what the "cauliflower" was. . . the flour I had dumped out.
I headed downstairs to assess the damages and there it was, every last fleck of flour was on the kitchen floor. Makiah had tried to sweep it up and had just kind of smeared it around. Samuel had walked through it, over it, around it and left little foot prints all over the kitchen and then of hall carpet before coming to tell me about the "cauliflower".
I began sweeping. I swept up a pile and then again and again. Leaving a broom path of white dust. UGH!! Finally, I got most of it up and I went for the Clorox mop and got up the rest of it.
This is one of the reasons for no running in the house. And next time I dump some flour, I'll put it in a bag in a bag.

Blessings Wrapped Up in Ugly Brown Paper
So yesterday I told you all the car accident. And the move. I left out a few details, but nothing that would change the story.
Today I want to share something that God did in the midst of all that chaos.
"I am upset, frustrated. Why did the car have to be out of commission now?? Couldn't this one thing have waited just a little while??? Not only was it damaged and now it wouldn't run. How are we supposed to get around this week?? The week of the move, no doubt?? Lord, I know you are doing something, but right now I can't see it."
That would be me. I was complaining. I felt I had good reasons to complain. We needed that car, a van, a scooter, something for mobility. Well, a scooter would be out, but you get my point.
Hubs was rear-ended, hard. The other guy was driving a big truck and his air bags deployed, meaning he was driving too fast. Hubs was at a complete stop at a light. Hubs has no injuries, no pain.
On Sunday the car died. On Monday afternoon, I was driving a 2009 Impala. Nice car, really nice. Most importantly though, I was mobile again. So I stopped complaining, momentarily. Monday evening the Pastor and a young man from church were going to meet me and take a pick-up truck load over to the new place because they wouldn't be available to help the next day. I took all the kids to the Pastor's house where several young ladies from the church were going to babysit. It was 102 degrees! It was awful outside and I was worried about the guys moving stuff in the heat, but the Pastor said they would be okay. I asked the Lord to cut us a break and lower the temp. As I was driving to their house, thunderheads began gathering and before long we had a down pour on our hands, with massive lightening. I resumed complaining. "Lord, could we not have held off the rain for just a little while." The storm only lasted about 10 minutes and the move was a go. We took a load over and I picked up my kiddos. I missed the blessing.
Our car was needed as I said above and I was frustrated that my mobility was gone. All I could think about was how we were going to get around. I didn't think about the fact that I could carry NOTHING in the trunk because it wouldn't close. I just needed transport. The car died on Sunday, before leaving to go out in country 30 miles away. On Monday I got a really sweet rental, with a huge trunk. I hauled tons-o-stuff in that trunk. I missed the blessing.
They totaled our car. The first thing I thought of was being able to find a vehicle in the same price range so that our payment wouldn't be too much higher. I did think of getting a van, but it didn't seem all that reasonable, seeing how expensive vans are. I have been praying for a van for 4 years. We needed one, but I still didn't see what God was doing. I was too caught up in everything else.
I did get the blessing that Hubs is fine. And I am truly thankful for that, truly. That was blessing number one.
Our car died on Sunday, before leaving for the country, less than a mile from our old apartment. Blessing number two--I could have been traveling at break neck speed on the interstate, miles from home.
I asked the Lord to cut us a break and lower the temp and (in my complaining state) instead he sent a storm. Well, see he answered my prayer. The storm took the temp from 102 to 77 in about 11 minutes. We still got to move a load of stuff and in lower temps. Blessing number three.
Noticing a pattern yet?? Yeah, you all are smart, I knew you'd be getting it by now.
I needed/wanted a car and mine was gone. Instead I drove around in a beautiful car with tons-o-space to move stuff. I wouldn't have been able to do that in the crunched up Intrepid. God provided mobility and mobility with space. Blessing number four.
Praying for a van for 4 years. A van that we could afford. We got a van, low mileage, loaded with electric seats, moon roof, spoiler, CD player, leather seats and the right price. Only $50 more per month, and that includes purchasing a warranty. Blessing number five. I finally have my van.
Sometimes we miss the blessings of God because they don't come the way we want or expect. They come hidden behind accidents where no one is hurt or in the form of a storm. They come wrapped in ugly, torn, old brown paper and we toss them aside and keep asking for the things that God has already tried to give us. We need to stop, look around and really see what God is doing. Then ask ourselves, did I just miss it? Because we probably did.
I am thankful that God slowed me down enough to really see what he was doing. See, really trusting God means I don't have to see the plan from beginning to end, I just have to be conscience of it--so I can give him the thanks he deserves.
I am truly blessed.

A True-to-Lovelock Style Adventure
Well we are moved. The piles of boxes surrounding me proves it.
Last week was truly a wild week, I still look back at it and think no way all that happened in eight days. So let me go back to the beginning. . . .
Hubs had scheduled a huge outreach event for church on June 20th and we were moving on June 22nd, I was about to lose my mind. We split our time, he worked at the church on the Chinese village (made out of cardboard for the Open Grill) and I packed and packed and packed. On Friday June 19, Hubs was heading out early that morning to finish up the village and start putting it together outside. He hadn't been gone 15 minutes when he called and said that he had been in a car accident. My heart lurched and he quickly added (knowing how I am and knowing that frantic was nearing) that he was fine and that he had been rear-ended and the bumper was "dented". Breathing in a sigh of relief and thinking the car was just slightly dented, I went back to the task of packing and he went onto the church. He worked all day and all night at the church. I called the insurance (other guy's) and took care of that. A friend picked me up Saturday morning and took me to the church so I could decorate and grab the car. I walked up and saw the car and inwardly cried out "Thank ya Jesus he wasn't hurt", because that car was more than just "dented". The trunk wouldn't even shut, it was completely crushed in, the lock broken. Hubs should have been hurt, but he wasn't. The rest of Open Grill was a blur and tiring, but we got through and now the complete focus could be PACKING!
On Father's Day we headed home from church to change clothes and then we were heading to a friends house for a cook out. Friends house is way out in the country about 40 minutes from where we live, but that was fine and we were looking forward to it. We got almost home and the car began to sputter, shake and quake and died. I started it again. It died again. We all got out and I called my parents. Linton, my dad and another guy rolled her into a parking spot and we left her. Monday morning she got towed to a shop. I needed a car people, it was moving week!! I had to have a vehicle. Well, they got us a rental car while they were figuring out the details of my car. The rental was nice and had a huge trunk which I knew would come in handy. Monday was spent running around with my dad or in the rental with breaks of packing in between. Monday evening our Pastor and a young guy from our church came and took a load of boxes to the new place. I filled the rental and they filled a pick-up truck and off we went. Linton had to work that evening.
Tuesday morning the UHAUL arrived and Hubs started filling it. Then some help arrived and they took over the two man heavy stuff and then the help left and it was back to Hubs. Finally got that thing loaded and we headed to the new place. Help came and we unloaded. For the most part we were moved. We still had some other things in the other place, but nothing we'd need a truck for, so we considered ourselves done for that day.
Thursday, I picked up my new to me minivan, because they TOTALED my "dented" car. More than $8,000 in damage and that didn't included the mechanical problem, which was why the car just died on Sunday. But Hubs wasn't totaled and that's the important part. I LOVE my mini van!!! We also spent Wednesday through Saturday finishing up at the old place and cleaning. Ugh! So glad that's over.
Now the work of unpacking, organizing, pricing yard sale items and decorating begins and I am actually excited for it. It was a wild week and I don't think I could properly put it's true craziness into words, but I tried. Bottom line, we are moved and we are blessed. I have several posts floating around in my head and I hope to get them typed and saved for your reading pleasure this week.

My Crock Pot and I Have Fallen in Love
It has become my best friend. My ultimate time saver. My sanity-saving, dinner is actually done, very best friend.
I used to be an occasional crock pot user. Pot roast and Mexican beef was pretty much the only time I used it. Then I became wise. I started thinking up things that would cook all by themselves in my pretty red crock pot, while I was doing something else. So I decided on Curry Chicken with Potatoes. Then came the Hawaiian Chicken. Two successes in the crock pot. My mind began to wonder the things that could be done in this, formerly under-appreciated kitchen appliance.
I know, I know, there are dozens of recipes for the slow cooker, I'm getting there. Ok?
So one day while I in the midst of my sorta-kinda bloggity break I was packing (which was the reason for the bloggity break) and I desparately needed dinner to cook itself. I had chicken on hand, but we had just had curry chicken the week before. So I decided to just put something together as I went. Here is how it went:
1 Can of chicken broth
3 Frozen Chicken breasts
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Several dashes of Ground Lemon Peel
Several dashes of Rosemary
A sprinkle of Thyme
Cover and cook on high for four and a half hours (cut this time if the chicken is already thawed out), you know cook it till it's done. I know I didn't give exact measurements on the spices and herbs, but do that to your taste.
Peal potatoes, however many you need for your brood, layer on top of the almost cooked chicken. Sprinkle a little more lemon peel, salt, pepper and rosemary. Cover and cook until the potatoes are done.
Serve with a steamer bag of veggies of your choice (or alone if you and veggies don't agree). We had brussel sprouts along with it.
YUMMY!! It's now an official meal with a title: Lemon Rosemary Chicken and Potatoes. I didn't say it would be unique, just titled. I spent my creativity on the food, not the title.
I literally put that list of ingredients in, in the order they are listed. This chicken was delicious, a major crowd pleaser, even the kids ate it and liked it. Best news of all, I got to work while my crock pot was cooking my dinner.
So now I consider myself a habitual crock pot chef. That's right, I throw it in and it cooks it. We work well together, don't ya think??
Now all I need is one of those fancy crock pots with a timer! ~~Smile~~

Double the Fun
That's right two meme's for your viewing pleasure. I am up to my ears in boxes and packing, but I thought I'd take a little break and blog a little. You know, since I have nothing I should be doing! Ha! If you only knew. . . .
Two Meme's from Mama Kenz Studio, the birth story of her new little guy is up too!!
< a>
What were you most looking forward to doing postpartum that you couldn't do while pregnant, and did it live up to your expectations?
1. I wanted a HUGE Dr. Pepper. Not that I should drink it, but it sounded so good.
2. I wanted to sleep in on my stomach and on my back!
3. I wanted to be able to see my feet without having to sit down and hold them up.
4. I wanted to wear my cute shoes again versus my clogs because my feet were too huge for my cute shoes. (Not that I could see my feet, but everyone else could.)
5. I wanted to be able to sing in church again without needing to stop every three words to catch my breath! ~~Smile~~
Each one was satisfying for sure. Though postpartum I drank enough water to float a battleship, that little can of DP was really good. And the first day I got to stand up (c-section), I remember looking down and I said out loud "My feet are normal again and I can see them". The nurse chuckled at that one.
Go here to see what Mama Kenz was looking forward too and to join in the linkage fun.
And now for. . .

1. Which diaper did you or do you plan to use as the first one for your new babe, and why?
2. What are your tips for cloth diapering a newborn?
Well, I started cloth diapering when Daniel was four weeks old and I haven't looked back. I started with prefolds and covers because that was all I really knew about. I ordered a "try-it" kit and I used those prefolds and covers until he grew out of them and needed to go the next size. I think if I were to have another little one I would use some fitted diapers until he/she got a little bigger and then go with a one size pocket for the duration.
My tips:
~~My problem was not having enough dipes and I had to wash laundry a lot and keep 'sposies on hand. So make sure your stash is big enough.
~~Have everything organized with instructions near the changing area so that whenever a helper is changing your little one (hopefully while you are resting) they know where everything is and how everything works. (Whenever anyone besides me would change him, they would use a 'sposie because they weren't sure how or what to do)
Here is what Mama Kenz is doing and link up and tell everyone what you did/do/will do for your little one!!
My break is over, back to packing. Much bloggity love!!
Two Meme's from Mama Kenz Studio, the birth story of her new little guy is up too!!
< a>What were you most looking forward to doing postpartum that you couldn't do while pregnant, and did it live up to your expectations?
